Narrative description of project:

The objective of the assignment was to develop a CBWMP to manage Nabajuzzi wetlands in a sustainable manner for present and future generations while gaining economic, social, environmental and cultural benefits. Nine management objectives were identified: creating awareness, improvement of soil and water management in the catchment area, promotion of efficient use of wetland resources, introduction of alternative income-generating activities, promotion of tourism, ensuring proper disposal of wastes, formation of wetland management committees, formation of bylaws, and law enforcement at District and Sub-County level. The consultant, together with the stakeholders, developed the management structures, tools and monitoring indicators. Possible sources of funding were also identified.

• Detailed stakeholder analyses and consultations in eleven sub-counties surrounding the wetland.
• Meetings with administrators, political leaders and extension staff in and around Masaka municipality
• Meetings and discussions with community representatives
• Meeting with district technical staff
• Preparation of reports: “Nabajuzzi Community Based Wetland Management Planning Process”, “Nabajuzzi Community Based Wetland Management Plan (2004 – 2008)”
