Narrative description
of project: |
Following WE
Consult’s water resources assessment study, the
company was contracted to design and construct a piped
water supply for Kumi Hospital. The contract includes
a large community component, involving the drilling of
7 boreholes and the construction of 1 shallow well for
the communities situated between the lake intake and
the Hospital, creation of hygiene and sanitation awareness
and development of water user committees. The construction
of the piped water supplies includes the construction
of a rising main of 8 km, rehabilitation of existing
storage tanks, construction of pump house and staff house,
water treatment and an elaborate distribution network
towards all hospital buildings and a number of tap stands.
In addition, a hygiene and sanitation plan is developed
for the hospital following a participatory approach. The
sanitation situation of the hospital is improved through
the construction as well as upgrading of latrine facilities.
The hospital is trained in the technical and financial
management of the water supply. |
