Narrative description of project:

As the districts’ water sector staff has the new task of implementing water projects in their districts, there is an urgent need for strengthening the capacity of the districts in the fields of contract supervision and management. WE Consult was commissioned to conduct a comprehensive course on supervision of drilling contracts for district and DWD staff. The courses are held annually, with the first one held in Masaka in 2000, the second one in Mbarara in 2001, and the third one in Mbale in 2002. The course, that has a duration of 1.5 weeks, includes lectures from specialists in the fields of contract management, drilling and drilling supervision. Field visits are made to various drill sites to study the tasks involved during the different stages of the drilling and installation of boreholes. The course methodology is based on an active involvement of all participants. Special topics include evaluation of tenders and preparation of drilling contracts, and geophysical well logging. Up to know some 60 district staff, mainly from the DWO have attended the course.
