WE Consult was requested to execute
an comprehensive feasibility study for the town water supply
of Marrupa town. The population of 18,000 people is
currently relying on traditional sources.
The report incorporated hydro(geo)logical and socio-economic
aspects and also contains a review of the most recent
existing reports.
The work
was carried out in three phases. The first phase comprised
of the inception study. During this inception study all relevant information
was collected to review the studies carried out so far,
and prepare the water resources assessment survey. In
addition, a questionnaire was developed and the set
up of the socio-economic survey.
The information
from the inception phase was used to plan and implement
the field reconnaissance survey. The fieldwork comprised
of three surveys, being a socio-economic survey, an
availability study of both surface water and groundwater,
and an evaluation of the existing water supply as well
as alternative options. These surveys were executed
simultaneously by the various specialists in April 2004.
This third,
reporting, phase was a synergy between the various disciplines.
In this final report the various options for the town’s
water supply development are discussed including budget
figures for the various options. The results of the
socio-economic survey are incorporated as well.
